Now that tickets are on sale we are taking some time to highlight some options remaining for those who have yet to decide what they want to do whilst here in Shetland.
This time we’re focusing on the options for classes on Shetland Lace. The following classes still have some tickets remaining, and provide a great range of options for people looking to get into lace to the more advanced techniques.
For the very beginner to lace we have:
From Lace to Chunky with Sheila Fowlie
Monday 26th September, 0945 – 1245, Ticket Price: £55.00, Hoswick Visitor Centre
This class will take you through the basics of lace with a range of yarn weights, teaching you the techniques you can take forwards into lace projects in the future.
If you have already got the basics down then why not try:
Saturday 24th September, 1000 – 1530, Ticket Price: £120.00, Delting Boating Club
Have Helen Robertson teach you the traditional Cockleshell lace motif, and show you how you can use this to construct a shawl.
Experienced Lace knitters Elizabeth Williamson and Betsy Williamson have a range of classes on lace, from those teaching the basic stitches and motifs to the more advanced options:
Wednesday 28th September, 0930 – 1100, Ticket Price: £40.00, Staney Hill Hall, Lerwick
This intermediate level class will teach a method for joining together two pieces of knitting with an invisible join, helping to develop the final finishing of any garment and especially useful for delicate haps and shawls.

Teaching a wide range of traditional Shetland lace patterns, this class is aimed at all levels of knitter with something for everyone to try.
Thursday 29th September, 10.00 – 12.00, 14.00 – 16.00, Ticket Price: £40.00, Ollaberry Hall, Ollaberry
The Shetland Twins is a commonly seen pattern which appears in Shetland Lace, and this class with Elizabeth will take you through the stitches and techniques and guide you in creating a swatch of the pattern to take forwards into future projects.
Friday 30th September, 1400 – 1700, Ticket Price £90.00, Staney Hill Hall, Lerwick
This intermediate class will take you through how to create traditional lace edging on a mini shawl project, teaching you the skills to take forwards onto any future shawls and haps you try.
