At long last we are able to share some of our plans with you!
For the past few months, we’ve been working away behind the scenes to pull together our virtual Shetland Wool Week.
None of us expected to have to cancel the physical event for a second year running, but here we are again, and we are taking this as an opportunity to go online and showcase more of Shetland with you: our hardy sheep, the beautiful wool, SWW expert knowledge and skills, and the islands’ rich textile heritage.
For nine days from 25 September – 3 October, there will be films, talks, tours and classes – some pre-recorded and others live, as well as music, a market and social events.
SAVE THE DATE: Wednesday 1 September
From 1 September we will be launching:
Shetland Wool Week membership which will give you access to:
Over 10 specially commissioned SWW films which capture different crofting and textile subjects, such as lambing, rooing, Fair Isle knitting, weaving, spinning and natural plant dyeing. You’ll recognise some faces and there will be plenty of new ones, too – each offering hints, expert tips, interesting facts and a unique insight into Shetland Wool Week.Much of the pre-recorded content will be available for several weeks, so you can dip in and out of it, or replay sections at your leisure.
Three-day advance notice to the online programme of classes and talks. Many of our Shetland Wool Week tutors will be running a variety of classes and talks throughout the week (these events are separate from the SWW membership; tickets will go live to the public on Saturday 4 September).
Early-bird access to the Makers’ Market which will take place on 2nd and 3rd October.
Plus bonus material throughout the week!
On 1 September, we will also be launching pre-orders for our new Shetland Wool Annual 2021, which will be ready to ship from October.
Packed with 12 beautiful patterns our much-loved publication showcases some of the very best in Shetland knitwear design and weaving, all using the finest Shetland wool.
It’s a beautiful publication with stunning photography, clear patterns, and additional articles that give a fascinating insight into the islands’ textile heritage, past and present. Definitely a collector’s item.
Make sure you’re signed up to the SWW newsletter, or follow us on Facebook and Instagram to hear all the latest updates.
As always, thank you for your continued support. Please know that every donation or SWW purchase, whether it’s a membership, SWW Annual, an item of merchandise, or a pattern, all goes back into helping us secure the future of the event.
With best wishes,
The Shetland Wool Week team.
