Shop Shetland Heritage Inspired Gifts
Visitors to Shetland Wool Week will know that we work very closely with our colleagues in the Shetland Museum and Archives, welcoming guests, delivering events and hosting the all-important Hub throughout the week. You may have browsed their gift shop while you were there – it has a great range of products inspired by the museum’s collections, and reflect and celebrate Shetland’s unique cultural heritage.

Here are a few of our favourites from their collection, which we think would make the perfect Christmas gift.

New Christmas Cards
Share your seasonal wishes this year with the new range of Shetland Heritage Christmas cards featuring four nostalgic snowy scenes from the museum photo archive. Each card is beautifully printed with the message ‘Gӧd Yӧl’.

Knitting and Textile Books
Browse the museum’s recently expanded range of knitting and textile books which includes exclusive signed copies of Shetland Fine Lace Knitting: Recreating Patterns from the Past’ by Carol Christiansen, Curator of Textiles and Community Museums Officer at Shetland Museum and Archives.

New ALLOVER Postcard Sets!
In 1970, after seeing Fair Isle knitwear on the streets of London, Chris Morphet, then an aspiring 26-year-old freelance photographer, travelled to pre-oil Shetland to document his fascination with Fair Isle knitwear. Morphet’s candid photos document the lives of Shetland islanders and the distinctive designs celebrated through Shetland Knitwear.

His striking portraits are currently on display in the Shetland Museum, they serve as a fascinating social, historical, and cultural record of Fair Isle knitwear and the people who wore it in Shetland – as contemporary and relevant today is it was over 50 years ago.

Choose from four themed postcard sets, each capturing a distinctive piece of Shetland’s story – Knitting, Fair Isle, Shetland and Lerwick.

Needle Felted Sheep & Trow ornaments
How cute are these! All handmade locally with 100% Shetland wool.  The sheep have a loop on their back, they can be used as a hanging decoration or they can stand. The trows make for a unique and whimsical decoration, steeped in Shetland’s rich folklore tradition.

Thank you for your support, all Shetland Wool Week sales help secure the future of the event  and every purchase made from the Shetland Heritage Shop helps to protect and preserve Shetland’s natural and cultural heritage.
